Sol Epstein, MD, FRCP, FACP is Professor of Medicine and Geriatrics at Mt. Sinai University School of Medicine in New York, and Director of Clinical Research at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA. He received his medical degree with honors at the University of Cape Town Medical School, where he also completed an internship in general medicine and general surgery. He completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine and endocrinology at Tufts University in Boston and the Royal Postgraduate school of Medicine in London. Dr. Epstein then returned to Groote Schuur Hospital at the University of Cape Town Medical School, where he was Senior Lecturer and Senior Consultant and Director of the renal-metabolic laboratory. Dr. Epstein then left South Africa to become Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Research Center at Indiana University School of Medicine and Hospital. Dr. Epstein served as Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and as Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He then went on to MCP-Hahnemann University in Philadelphia where he served as Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Director of Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease. He is continuing basic research studies at Mt. Sinai in New York and has developed an osteoporosis program and center at Doylestown Hospital.

Dr. Epstein has focused his career on bone and mineral teaching and research and has established many academic initiatives in this area, including the discovery that the calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressants cause profound bone loss after organ transplantation. He has over 250 peer reviewed publications and is an author of numerous book chapters and sits on many editorial boards. He is a member of many professional societies including The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and American Federation for Clinical Research, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians. Dr. Epstein is President of the International Society for Post Transplant Bone Disease. He has served worldwide as a Visiting Professor of Medicine, including in the United Kingdom, Latin America, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and Southern Africa.
