Dr. Felicia Cosman is a graduate of Cornell University and Stony Brook Medical School. She received her internal medicine training and completed her endocrinology fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

In 1988, she moved to Helen Hayes Hospital where she has been an osteoporosis specialist, clinical scientist and Medical Director of the Clinical Research Center. Her research has included studies of what causes osteoporosis, how estrogen and SERMS work in clinical models as treatments for osteoporosis, the impact of Vitamin D supplementation in high risk groups and etiologies of stress fractures in military cadets. Her main research focus has been the use of parathyroid hormone in the treatment of osteoporosis, and its interactions with hormone therapy, alendronate and raloxifene. She is the recipient of research grants from the National Institute of Health, the Department of Defense, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, as well as investigator initiated grants from multiple pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Cosman has authored over 100 original articles and over 30 book chapters in the field of osteoporosis and women's health. She recently co-edited a book for the American College of Physicians entitled, Osteoporosis: An evidence-based guide to prevention and management. She also wrote a book for the lay public entitle What Your doctor May Not Tell You About Osteoporosis, published by Warner Books. Dr. Cosman has been nominated to the Top Doctor List (Castle-Connolly) each year from 2001 to 2005 in the filed of osteoporosis/endocrinology and intern al medicine. She is the Review Editor for Osteoporoses International and is on the Editorial Board of Clinical Cases in Mineral and Bone Metabolism. She is a regular reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Calcified Tissue International, Osteoporosis International, Endocrine Practice, Endocrinology, and Bone. She has served as Clinical Director for the National Osteoporosis Foundation since 1996 and is currently Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University.
